Himalayan Village Sonapani
Simple Living, High Thinking – An Authentic Kumaoni Soul.
The Legacy of Golden Water
About the Resort & Its History
The Resort Experience: Spread across 20 acres of vibrant orchards and dense forests of oak, pine, and rhododendron, Himalayan Village Sonapani is a sanctuary for the soul. We invite you to experience the authentic Kumaoni way of life through mindful activities like bird watching, village walks, and treks to the 10th-century Kapileshwar Temple. For the more adventurous, we facilitate rock climbing and rappelling on nearby cliffs. After a day of exploring, guests can savor organic, home-style Kumaoni and Indian cuisine or gather around a crackling bonfire. Whether you are waking up to sun-drenched views of the Panchachuli and Maiktoli peaks or finding peace in our digital-detox environment, the TGH Group Team ensures every moment is defined by "The Great Hospitality."
The Historical Legacy: The history of Sonapani is deeply rooted in the legendary local spring, known as the "Golden Water," which was long believed to possess medicinal properties. The estate was originally the retirement retreat of Captain Kushal Singh Burathoki, a highly decorated soldier of the 3rd Gurkha Rifles. Today, the property still preserves a century-old heritage stone structure that serves as its historical heart. Our 12 independent cottages are a tribute to sustainable mountain wisdom, constructed using traditional 'Bakli' architecture. Built with local stone and finished with mud plaster, these cottages naturally regulate temperature keeping you cozy during Himalayan winters and refreshingly cool during the summer months.
