The Resort Experience: Nestled within 6 acres of private fruit orchards, Leela Orchard Sonapani is a sanctuary designed for those seeking a "pure" Himalayan life. Perched in the tranquil hamlet of Sonapani, our homestay offers panoramic, front-row views of the snow-capped Nanda Devi and Trishul peaks. Guests enjoy a farm-to-table philosophy where pure vegetarian Kumaoni meals are prepared using organic produce from our own kitchen garden. It is a place where the rustle of oak leaves and the scent of ripening peaches replace the digital noise of the city.
The Historical Legacy: Mukteshwar carries a storied past as a colonial-era retreat and research hub, most notably home to the IVRI campus established in 1893. The hamlet of Sonapani—meaning "Golden Water"—sits at the heart of the "Fruit Bowl of Kumaon." These ridges were famously favored by the British for their heritage tea and fruit estates. Just 10km away lies the 350-year-old Mukteshwar Dham Temple, a spiritual landmark dedicated to Lord Shiva that has watched over these valleys for centuries, inspiring artists and travelers alike.
